Looking for something to do on a Sunday? You’ve just finished brunch and are caffeined out? Well come on by to our premiere screening of the monthly documentary screening event, DOC TALK.
We love documentaries and thought it was high time to organise a monthly documentary screening event. The event goes beyond just a screening to include music before and after by EVERYONE’S A DJ and a facilitated discussion of the film and the themes and issues the film brings up.
For our premiere event, we will be screening a selection of short films provided by DocLab. After that we will be screening the Sundance award winning film, THE HOUSE I LIVE IN by Eugene Jarecki. It’s a fascinating examination of the United States War on Drugs. For more than 40 years this war has resulted in more than 45 million arrests, $1 trillion dollars in government spending, and has put the United States on the map as the world’s largest jailer. The film captures stories from the front line – from the dealer to the grieving mother, to the inmate to the federal court judge.
2PM – 3PM: Music by Everyone’s a DJ
3PM – 3:20: Vietnamese short films (English Subtitles)
3:30: THE HOUSE I LIVE IN (Vietnamese subtitles)
Facilitated discussion of the film and the themes and issues it brings up (English)
Music after discussion to 8PM
